Ha Long Bay

18:45 Another unexpected delight.  Woke up to thick fog in Ha Long Bay on the coast of North East Vietnam.  We were collected by junks from the side of the ship and sailed around Ha Long Bay, where there are over 1500 small islands.
And then to Hang Tien Cung (Heavenly Palace) grotto – beautiful but hard to negotiate.  The islands are similar to those we saw in Thailand but not so densely covered.  Another UNESCO World Heritage site, Ha Long is simply beautiful.  We went to the town and the market and sampled Pho Bo again – the Vietnamese staple diet.  The morning was very cool, but by late afternoon the weather was glorious and we watched the sun set (again) on the balcony.
Tonight, we are going to Marco Pierre White’s on board Ocean grill restaurant for Valentine’s Day and to say goodbye to table mates, Mike and Trish, who leave us at Hong Kong to return to the UK and Portsmouth.

  1. You both seem to be having a wonderful time I think the Asian food is simply and very simply wonderful, almost instant and very cheap don't think you can tire of it really. Although you foodies I know like trying new foods. I'm still an avid follower although can't comment on all the places without sounding incredibly boring as I'm soooooooooo envious of you both and can't wait to hear all about it. Vietnam looks very interesting as a holiday destination xxx
