Suez

Just woken up to the magnificent Suez Canal.  Best so far.  Never thought we would do this.  Beautiful.

Later:

An excellent day transiting the Suez Canal.  The weather was beautiful and, being on the starboard side, we could see much of the dense green agricultural land that has developed.  It has taken up to 14:30, moving in a convoy of large ships, to get through its 160km. We had to wait in the beautiful Great Bitter Lake for an hour and a half while the ships going northwards exited the lower part of the canal - it is only wide enough for one big ship.

At the end is the good sized town of Suez - very pristine compared with Cairo.

We now move into the Gulf of Suez before we reach the Red Sea and then Aqabar tomorrow.  The ship is now in blackout – outside - in case of pirates. The threat is taken very seriously.
Tomorrow is a visit to the lost city of Petra in Jordan – hope to get some good pictures, Giles, following a slight mistake yesterday, when someone kindly took our photograph at the Pyramids and inadvertently changed all the settings without our noticing.  P and O photographers sorting it out.

  2. Thanks. Will do. The wifi on board is so slow and expensive. Look forward to Dubai and India when I can access cheaper and quicker (or free) Will put more pictures on then, but probably a bit smaller. It's good that so many hits have been made on the site
