A Taste of Athens

Took a scenic drive to capture views of the Acropolis and the Parthenon.  An interesting city – a little run down and very conscious of its financial crisis.  Visited the shopping district, the Plaka, and the 1896 Olympic stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held.  Had lunch in a lovely taverna with local dishes and Ouzo, Metaxa and wine – entertained by local dancers.  Pictures include the guards at Parliament Square.  Look at what berthed alongside us today.  Two hours ahead of you and currently just north of Crete.

  1. It must be really hard for those guards to stand like that for any length of time. Is that ship the same as the one that tipped over then? I bet the passengers looked nervous!

    1. If its the sister ship then it's the same isn't it, or at least very similar? I didn't mean it's the actual one that hit the rock.

  4. Flew down to Sharm el Sheikh (and back!) today, right over Athens and Crete. I bet you two were drinking G&Ts while I was slaving away...

    Having fun so far?

    1. This must be some other type of "slaving away" that I've never heard of! I thought you just drank coffee, read the paper, and played flight simulator on the Xbox. Ok with a real plane, but it's the same thing really isn't it? :)

    2. I didn't get time to read the paper....it took ages to watch "A Lonely Place To Die", and "Super8". I'm not sure who sits on their backside more though, you or me?
