Bangkok - in a day

20:15  This morning docked at Laem Chabang, a deep water port on the coast of Thailand.  Opting for “Bangkok in a day”, we were unaware of the great surprise in store for us.  In truth, we are becoming a bit ‘templed out’ but the Temple of the Golden Buddha at Wat Pra Keo was magnificent (Ashley is running out of superlatives) - but even that was eclipsed by the stunning beauty and opulence of the Grand Palace, where kings and queens of Thailand used to reside years ago.

We visited the Emerald Buddha and around every corner was a view more ornate and beautiful than before.  It was impossible not to take hundreds of photographs.
A more than adequate Thai buffet at a good hotel provided necessary sustenance.
During our trip we have visited two Chinatowns, and as we do not wish to be ‘chinatowned out’ before we visit China itself, we have changed our visit to Ho Chi Min City (Saigon) – more later.
Jane was fascinated by the many water monitor lizards and giant tortoises walking along the canal banks.
A prosperous westernised city with cultural depth, Bangkok provided us today with a great and memorable surprise not to be forgotten.  A sailing day tomorrow.
