19:15 The history of Cambodia does not necessarily suggest a venue for tourism, but in spite of the Killing Fields and the atrocities of Pol Pot, we found the country quite delightful, if still somewhat impoverished.
With Elizabeth and Geoff from Canberra, we took a shuttle bus to Sihanoukville, did some shopping and had a brief tour of this rather bustling town in a tuk-tuk. Elizabeth’s skill in negotiating a good price is masterful.
We visited Serendipity beach on the Gulf of Thailand, one of many long white beaches where offers of a massage were in abundance (no, Guy, Ashley didn’t have one!) We found a local restaurant for lunch and ate ginger chicken, which was delicious even though there was more ginger than chicken! In all, a very good day out.
You need to come here for a cheap holiday before it becomes more popular.
For the past few days, we have sat on the balcony into the early hours of the morning, listening to the sea in the wonderful heat of the night. Tomorrow, a day in Bangkok
Glad you enjoyed Cambodia as we did. We found the people really nice especially considering what they have been through. We hope you enjoy your whistle tour of Bankok, there is so much to see there but we hope your visit includes the Royal Palace. We are off to Luxor for a Nile Cruise on monday finishing off with 3 days in Cairo, hopefully not to join the demonstrations. Will try to keep up with your blog as it is great to hear your experiences. Love Jean and Brian x
